Family History of Gastric Cancer and Helicobacter pylori Treatment

Abstract

To the Editor: In the trial reported by Choi et al. (Jan. 30 issue),¹ participants with Helicobacter pylori infection were assigned to receive eradication treatment or placebo. Patients in the treatment group received clarithromycin-containing triple therapy twice a day for 7 days. At the end of the trial, patients in either group who were still infected with H. pylori were treated with bismuth-based quadruple therapy for 10 days.¹ It is important to note that the American College of Gastroenterology guidelines for H. pylori treatment underwent updates during the time the trial was being conducted.^2-4 Clarithromycin-based triple therapy is no longer . . .
