Abstract
This article surveys the technological objects powered by semiconductor converters. It gives the classification of semiconductor converters, their scope and application and the functional diagram of the dynamic compensator voltage distortion (DCVD). The article states the problem of reliability of installations in which the semiconductor converters are used for electric power mechanisms. Further, the results of the analysis of statistics for causes of semiconductor converters failures are given. The ways of improving the reliability of semiconductor converters and electric drives are provided. A comparison of different drive systems according to the criteria of profitability and reliability is given. The analysis of existing methods for increasing performance reliability is provided here. The article is an example of the asynchronous motor lifetime calculation. It is a classification according to the degree of electrical reliability.
