Hot Off the Press: Difficult to Breathe—It Could be Pneumonia

Abstract
Biomarkers may help differentiate community‐acquired pneumonia (CAP) from other causes of lower respiratory tract infection. Potentially useful biomarkers in this setting include C‐reactive protein, procalcitonin and white blood cell count, all of which are available in the emergency department as well as in some primary care settings. This systematic review and meta‐analysis evaluates the utility of these biomarkers for diagnosis of outpatient CAP.
