Abstract
Zusammenfassung Menschen nehmen Informationen aus ihrem Umfeld über das visuelle und das auditive System auf. Diese Informationen schützen uns vor Gefahren und gewährleisten lebenswichtige Handlungen, wie z. B. soziale Interaktion, Fortbewegung, Arbeitsprozesse oder Ernährung. Die wichtigsten anatomischen und funktionellen Merkmale dieser beiden Sinnessysteme werden vergleichend gegenübergestellt und in Bezug auf deren Zusammenwirken/funktionelle Komplementarität beleuchtet. Dazu fand eine selektive Literaturrecherche in den Datenbanken PubMed (auch in der Europe PubMed Central), Psychline, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library und Web of Science statt. Zusätzliche Angaben einschlägiger Werke bzw. Websites auf den Gebieten (Neuro‑)Anatomie, (Neuro‑)Physiologie, (Neuro‑)Ophthalmologie und (Neuro‑)Otologie u. a. wurden herangezogen. Suchbegriffe waren Hörbahn, Sehbahn, visual system, auditory system, auditive system, visual pathway, auditory pathway, receptors, spatial hearing, spatial cognition, auditory cognition, visual cognition.Keywords
