Abstract
The women need to be view not as beneficiary but as active participant in the development and change. Empowerment of women can be successfully achieve if poor women could be organized into groups for community participation as well as for affirmation of their rights in a variety of services associated to their economic and social well-being. The constitutional reservation of seats could achieve its function of active participation of women in the PRIs but only if women are given a right type of opportunity, orientation and encouragement. This study concerned the collection of primary data collected from sample women representative through structured surveys. The samples of 160 women representatives from different gram panchayats in Cuddalore District of Tamil nadu were selected with the reason of this study. Therefore, this paper attempts the problems and factors encouraging participation of women representatives in gram panchayats.
