Two transition metal coordination polymers: inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus biofilms formation and prevention against spine surgery incision infection

Abstract
In the current research, two new Cu(II)-containing coordination polymers with the chemical formulae of [Cu-2(L)(2)]center dot 2DMA center dot 3H(2)O (1) and [Cu-2(L)(2)]center dot H2O (2, H2L = 2-(imidazol-1-yl)terephthalic acid) have been solvothermally synthesized by reaction of Cu(NO3)(2)center dot 3H(2)O with the H2L ligand in different solvent systems (DMA/H2O for 1 and NMP/H2O for 2), which have been well characterized by elemental analysis and the single crystal X-ray diffraction. Furthermore, their inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus biofilms formation during spine surgery incision infection was evaluated and the detail mechanism was explored. The CFU numbers in the infectious site was counted after compound 1 or 2 treatment. And the real time RT-PCR was performed on Staphylococcus aureus biofilms genes expression after compounds treatment.
