Abstract
Objective. We aimed to demonstrate whether the immunohistochemical expression of C-erb-B2 and progesterone receptors are valuable in the diagnosis of intraepithelial cervical neoplasia and squamous cell carcinoma. Methods and Results. Our retrospective study, a total of 84 cases diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia during 2005-2009, at the pathology department of Harran University, was investigated and stained with immunohistochemistry. Progesterone receptor was stained positive in 5 of 21 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia I. As a result of the statistical analysis (SPSS statistic 15.0), a significant correlation was found for positive progesterone receptors. No positive staining was seen in any of the cases with CerbB2 (p>0,05). Conclusions. In this study, it was concluded that positive progesterone receptors can be used to distinguish cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia I from other dysplasia and carcinoma, while Cerb-B2 has not been shown to be useful in distinguishing between these lesions. Keywords
