The primary purpose of our whitepaper is to make strategic recommendations for growing the ecosystem of benefit corporations in the State of Alabama. We begin by highlighting the necessity of benefit corporations and briefly reviewing their history and national growth trends. We highlight how other states and regions have been successful in growing their population of benefit corporations, and what Alabama would hope to gain by following suit. We discuss the advantages of the benefit corporation, as well as novel challenges that exist at both the individual-firm and state levels. We conclude by making targeted recommendations for developing, growing, and sustaining an ecosystem of benefit corporations in the State of Alabama.
