Kikuchi disease as a possible cause of ischaemic stroke: a case report

Abstract

This article reports a case of kikuchi disease which was confirmed by lymph node biopsy. What is different with previously reported cases is that this case involved a transient ischaemic attack as the initial symptom. A 46-year-old female patient presented at the clinic with a 2-week history of paroxysmal left limb weakness and fever. Fever recurred after admission, and the temperature returned to normal after four days without any special treatment. At the same time, left limb weakness recurred again and lasted for about 2 minutes. Laboratory examinations showed that erythrocyte sedimentation rate and plateletcount were significantly increased. Imaging examinations showed the multiple lymph nodes in neck enlarged bilaterally but vascular evaluations showed no significant abnormalities. A lymph node biopsy was arranged and the final results were consistent with the clinical features of Kikuchi disease.
