Abstract
As the power demand increases; technology has to be advanced; rotating machines are playing the vital role in every industry; but due to limitation in the topologies; applications are also limited. Every machine has a limitation over speed and torque requirement. So according to today's scenario; a machine is required which fulfils most of the industrial applications by its wide range of speed and torque. The objective of the paper is to analyse the speed control of axial flux permanent magnet motor (AFPM). It is very interesting that due to very wide topologies of AFPM machines; it fits into many applications. In recent years as the technology advances in low speed applications; permanent magnet synchronous machines have become more popular. With advancement in electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies; it forced the development and control of high performance; direct drive electrical machines. The AFPM motors are not like conventional brushless dc motors (BLDC); so to control AFPM motor is rather complicated. The speed control of AFPM is another area of research where effective control strategies of AFPM motor can be studied. In this paper we present the hardware implementation of open loop control of AFPM followed by results. Keywords
