Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Gallbladder agenesis is a congenital malformation that is considered extremely rare in dogs. The disease can course asymptomatically or with clinical signs, usually non-specific and including vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, ascites, and lethargy. The objective of this report was to describe the clinical and anatomopathological aspects of a dog with hepatic encephalopathy secondary to gallbladder agenesis. This condition can be diagnosed during surgery or imaging examinations; however, it is often an incidental finding. In the biochemical examinations, a decrease in alanine aminotransferase and an increase in alkaline phosphatase and hypoalbuminemia were observed. During the necropsy, hepatomegaly was observed with absence of the gallbladder, congestion, cerebral edema, lipiduria, and pulmonary edema. Microscopically, there was intense fibrosis and inflammation in the liver due to chronic cholangiohepatitis (cirrhosis of the liver). The consequence of this lesion secondary to gallbladder agenesis was hepatic encephalopathy. Chronic liver failure exposes the cerebral cortex to toxins that are not metabolized by the liver, such as ammonia, mercaptans, short-chain fatty acids, scatols, indols, and aromatic amino acids. These toxins cause reversible damage to the brain, which results in neurological disorders. In this report, the dog had no clinical neurological signs, and the diagnosis of this condition was observed histologically. Dogs with gallbladder agenesis usually have clinical and pathological findings of hepatobiliary lesions such as cholestasis, cholangiohepatitis, and, in severe cases, hepatic encephalopathy, which are necessary to differentiate from other diseases that affect the hepatobiliary system, such as cholelithiasis, neoplasms, and chronic hepatitis.

Abstract:
The occurrence of neoplasms in birds is still unknown, with the literature based mainly on scarce reports, in this context, data about epidemiology in specific species are almost nonexistent. Sarcomas are malignant mesenchymal origin neoplasms, which can develop from different tissues, such as adipose, cartilage, bone, among others. The occurrence of sarcomas in birds has been previously described, with different therapeutic approaches. The present report describes the clinical approach in a blue-fronted amazon (Amazona aestiva) diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma in the dorsal cervical region, with surgical excision associated with a metronomic chemotherapy protocol as an adjuvant. The therapeutic combination proved to be effective in controlling the disease, guaranteeing important survival, with clinical absence of side effects.

Abstract:
A total of 695 Holstein Friesian lactating dairy cows were examined for the prevalence of subclinical mastitis (SCM) and its association with selected risk factors in a private dairy farm at Fayoum district, Egypt. 444 lactating cows with 1145 quarters were found positive for SCM with prevalence of 63.88% and 41.18% at cow and quarter level respectively based on California Mastitis Test (CMT), Electrical Conductivity (EC) that had a mean value of 6.27 ± 0.066 mS/cm and Somatic Cell Count (SCC) with a mean value of 8.8×105± 9.2×103 cells/ml. The risk factors investigated in this study revealed that the highest percentage of SCM was observed in winter, in cows at the late lactation stage with a percentage of 32.21 and 59.91 respectively. The results concluded that the young age cows were exposed to SCM more than old ones. While the occurrence of SCM was higher in cows with 2nd, 3rd and 1st than those with 4, 5, 6th parity number. The analytical results also revealed that there is a highly significant difference (p < 0.05) between numbers of parity. However, there is no significant difference (p > 0.05) between different stages of age, lactation and season as risk factors.

Abstract:
Histopathological and spermatogenesis classification by Johnsen is widely used in the germinal epithelium maturation analysis, besides identifying pathological alterations able to cause subfertility and even infertility. The aim of this study was to analyze cell-differentiation histopathological data and to correlate them with expression of PRM-1, TNP-2, 17β-HSD3, LHR, generic MHC-I, MIC-B, NC1 and NC3 genes, involved in bovine spermatogenesis using qRT-PCR from testicular parenchyma. Based on Johnsen’s criteria, the results showed normal spermatogenic activity in these animals, classified at 6, 7 and 8 scores. The qRT-PCR analysis expression showed that MHC-I (generic) gene was less expressed than all the other genes in evaluated scores (p < 0.05) and, PRM-1 and TNP-2 were the most expressed genes (p < 0.05). The PRM-1 gene expression was significantly higher than TNP-2 (p < 0.05). Comparing scores, 17β-HSD3 gene expression was lower (p < 0.05) in score 6 when compared to scores 7 and 8 animals. It was also observed that PRM-1 expression was lower in score 6 when compared to 7, as well as TNP-2 gene was less expressed in the score 6 (p < 0.05) when compared to 7 and 8 scores. Our results demonstrated that MHC I (generic), MIC-B, NC1, NC3, and LHR genes are poorly expressed in bovine testis, suggesting their marginal action on spermatogenesis. Instead, PRM-1, TNP-2, and 17β-HSD3 expression were higher, supporting the notion that these genes can act directly on the germ cells differential development during bovine spermatogenesis.

Abstract:
The effectiveness of antisepsis of surgical sites in 20 animals (canine species) was compared and subdivided into two groups, using 4% chlorhexidine gluconate associated with alcohol (group 1) and 0.5% chlorhexidine gluconate (group 2). The samples were collected through skin swab after trichotomy (T1), after definitive antisepsis (T2) and one hour after the use of antiseptic (T3), and then submitted to the count of colony forming units (CFU). In both groups, bacterial growth occurred in T1; in T2, the reduction of CFUs was significant for both groups (G1 and G2); however, if we consider absolute values, we can see in T1 a greater amount of CFUs in G2, and when evaluating the results of T2, we can see values which are very similar between G1 and G2, which may suggest greater efficiency of G2 in initial times after antisepsis. In T3, the reduction of CFUs was more effective for G1, suggesting a greater residual effect when compared to G2. Both antiseptic protocols were effective as they significantly reduced the number of skin bacteria, both in T2 and T3.

Abstract:
Weaning is a development stage that brings maternal independence, change of management and feeding, leading to immune deficit. The objective of this study was to evaluate the hematological and biochemical parameters of foals in weaning phase after intravenous administration of hyperimmune plasma (1 mL/Kg) in low dose. Ten foal weaned from the Mangalarga Machador breed were used, being divided in control (GC; n=5) and treated group (GT; n=5). The results obtained show that hematological and biochemical parameters of foals that received low doses of hyperimmune plasma were within the reference range for the equine species.

Abstract:
The use of powdered hemostatic products and propolis-based preparations has become increasingly common to control bleeding and aid healing. This study evaluated two hemostatic dressings, one based on propolis (Alveolex®) and the other on ferric subsulfate powder (Quick Blood Stopper®), on experimental wound in quails. The experiment was conducted with 36 quails assigned to three groups: control, propolis-based hemostatic dressing and ferric subsulfate-based hemostatic dressing, on two types of wounds, superficial (skin and subcutaneous) and deep (skin, subcutaneous and muscle). Pre- (day-7) and post-procedure (days 2 and 10) examinations showed a tendency to reduce hematocrit values on day 2 and a tendency to increase fibrinogen levels and total leukocyte count on the same day. Visual assessment of wound healing indicated that birds using Quick Blood Stopper® showed signs of poor healing, while the group treated with Alveolex® had uncomplicated healing within the expected time. The groups treated with hemostatic based on ferric subsulfate showed a tendency to increase the values of fecal corticosterone metabolites on day 10, suggesting an increased level of stress in these animals. During the surgical procedure, both hemostatic products controlled bleeding, but Alveolex®was more efficient and easy to handle.

Abstract:
This paper aimed at reporting the creation of brachycephalic and dolichocephalic 3D synthetic anatomical models of canine heads (3D SAMCH) as a complementary technique to traditional osteotechnique using Computed Tomography (CT) images in volumetric reconstruction. The study was carried out in three stages, namely: a) preparation of canine heads in natura; b) creation of digital files of canine heads using CT; and c) 3D printing of synthetic anatomical models of canine heads. As a result, two 3D SAMCH were produced due to rarer availability in Animal Anatomy laboratories collections; the important representation of the cribriform plate was possible, but a remarkable defect presented was the teeth. It concluded that the digital files creation through CT scanner allows a fine representation of canine heads if considered pros and cons regarding the use of synthetic models instead of natural bones.

Abstract:
The complete absence of one of the uterine horns, named segmental uterine aplasia or unicorn uterus, occurs due to deficiency in the development of segments of the paramesonephric or Mullerian ducts. It is a congenital or hereditary anomaly of the female reproductive tract caused by recessive genes, which occurrence is unusual. In cows, this malformation was initially called “white heifer disease”, comprising an alteration in the Mullerian ducts in association with the white skin gene that causes aplasia of the uterus, cervix and vagina. Two pieces of sheep reproductive system from a slaughterhouse under federal inspection in the state of Bahia, Brazil, were received for pathological diagnosis. The collection, dissection and macroscopic analysis were carried out. In the macroscopic evaluation, uterine segmental aplasia was identified in both cases, with complete absence of the left uterine horns. Both had agenesis of the uterine tubes associated with the absence of internal bifurcation of the uterine horns. Animals that have a unicorn uterus often have reduced fertility which consequently leads to losses to sheep farming.

Abstract:
Tilapia comprises one of the most cultivated fish species worldwide, mainly commercialized in the form of fillets. As a result, the amount of waste generated by processing is high, with tilapia skin being commonly discarded and not used as food for human consumption. In this context, the aim of this study was to dry residual filleted tilapia skins in a solar dehydrator and perform physical-chemical analyses after drying in order to evaluate the potential for the development of byproducts. The skins were collected at a fish market on Mercado do Peixe in Teresina - PI. Treatments consisted of four sodium chloride concentrations (0.0%; 25.0%; 50.0% and 100.0%), with five replications, totaling 25 samples. The skins were dried in the solar dehydrator for 24 hours, followed by moisture, ash, protein, lipids, pH and water activity analyses. Moisture in the in naturaskins was 57.7%, differing significantly from the dehydrated tilapia skins, which ranged from 9.4% to 10.6%. The ash in the in natura skins was 0.17%, while dehydrated tilapia skins displayed variations from 1.19% to 4.17%. The crude protein found of the in natura skins was 41.4%, significantly different (P <0.05) from the skins submitted to the solar dehydration method. Based on these findings, the use of solar dehydrator for short periods is confirmed to favor the uniform dehydration of residual tilapia skin from filleting, generating a product with satisfactory bromatological patterns for the development of fish-based by-products.

Abstract:
Renal ectopy is a rare condition in small animals, characterized by abnormal positioning of one or both kidneys. It is classified as simple or crossed and, according to its localization, being diagnosed in an incidental way in pets because of its nonspecific and many times asymptomatic clinical presentation. Imaging exams such as ultrasound, radiography, and excretory urography may close the diagnosis. This paper reports a case of simple, unilateral, renal ectopy, in a three-year-old male Lhasa Apso dog, with no clinical or laboratory findings consistent with renal disease, in which the ectopic condition, together with shape, rotation, and vascular abnormalities, were incidental findings during abdominal ultrasound examination.

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance and economic indicators of baby goats region submitted to different feeding systems in the Semiarid. A total of 30 baby goats of breed Parda Alpina × without defined racial pattern (SPRD) with initial weight of 3.35 kg ± 0.65 kg and final weight of 12.3 kg ± 0.5 kg were used, distributed in a completely randomized design in three breastfeeding systems with ten replicates each: traditional system (with natural breastfeeding), intensive breastfeeding system without concentrated supplementation, and intensive breastfeeding with concentrated supplementation. Goats submitted to the intensive artificial feeding system without concentrated supplementation showed a similar weight gain (121 g/day) when compared to the goats submitted to the system of suckling with concentrated supplementation (126 g/day). The highest income was provided by the animals submitted to the intensive system of suckling with concentrate. The gross margin for the two centenarians was positive, that is, revenues are higher than the effective operating cost, allowing us to conclude that the activity is paying off and will survive, at least in the short term. The diet of kids using concentrate provided better dry matter intake, greater weight gain and consequently presented better economic indicators.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to report the Salpingopharyngeus fistula technique by means of videosurgery through a natural orifice (NOTES) in order to treat bilateral empyema. A mare was seen at the Large Animal Sector of UFPR, with a history of bilateral purulent nasal discharge associated with dysphagia lasting for ninety days. The animal was submitted to endoscopy, showing a moderate amount of purulent secretion in both guttural pouches. With no improvement on the clinical treatment, we opted for surgical treatment by endoscopy through Salpingopharyngeus fistula made with the aid of a device containing an electrical scalpel developed to perform this technique. It consisted of making an incision in the pharyngeal recess in order to access the guttural pouches and subsequently drain the purulent content. The patient was discharged at the same day and returned to work 30 days after the procedure. Surgical treatment for cases of guttural pouch empyema is indicated when the clinical resolution has not been effective, and the minimally invasive technique is indicated due to the reduction of risks and the easiness of postoperative management. Until this moment, there are no reports of the salpingopharyngeal fistula technique through video surgery for the treatment of guttural pouch empyema, which has proved to be efficient for the treatment of the disease.

Abstract:
There are few reports in the literature about genetic determinants of resistance to β-lactams in Staphylococcus aureusisolated from dairy cattle located in the municipality of Garanhuns, state of Pernambuco, Brazil. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the production of β-lactamase and the presence of the blaZ and mecA genes in penicillin-resistant S. aureus isolated from cases of subclinical bovine mastitis in the city of Garanhuns. Forty-six strains of penicillin-resistant S. aureus were evalu-ated using the nitrocefin disc test and duplex PCR. The results revealed that 45 strains (97.8%) were positive for β-lactamase production and 44 (95.7%) carried the blaZ gene. Among the latter, 43 (97.7%) were β-lactamase producers and only one (2.3%) was not. The mecA gene was not detected in any of the isolates investigated. The results suggest that enzymatic inacti-vation is the main β-lactam resistance mechanism expressed by S. aureus in the herds analyzed.

Abstract:
This study aimed to evaluate the to evaluate the occurrence rate of bovine brucellosis and tuberculosis in dairy herds of Acre State, Brazil. The survey was performed on 487 lactating cows distributed across 27 farms in seven cities from June 2018 to February 2019. Farms were selected according to the following criteria: volume of milk production (150 L/day), distance to an urban perimeter (43 km), and time of dairy activity (12 years). For the diagnosis of brucellosis, buffered acidified plate antigen (BAPA) and complement fixation (CF) tests were used. Among the investigated animals, the occurrence rates for brucellosis and tuberculosis were 1.88% (9/487) and 1.23% (6/487), respectively; among the investigated farms, 11.11% (3/27) and 22.2% (6/27) had livestock diagnosed as positive for brucellosis and tuberculosis, respectively. The farms with tuberculosis-positive cattle possessed some common features with respect to herd size. These farms had considerable herd sizes, which were reared extensively in pastures shared with other susceptible or pathogen-carrying animals. In conclusion, the occurrence rate of bovine brucellosis and tuberculosis in dairy herds from Acre state is, in general, lower than that observed in other states of Brazil. Nevertheless, there is an urgent need for developing strategies to control and eradicate both diseases to prevent eventual outbreaks and pathogen dissemination.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Saccharomyces cerevisiae is widely applied as a probiotic in aquaculture activities, due to its ability to decontaminate the mycotoxin Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). From this point, the present study aimed to evaluate the antifungal and anti-aflatoxigenic activities of inactivated Saccharomyces cerevisiae mixed with a commercial product (CP) of animal feed to assess its influence on the Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus fungi growth on the AFB1 production. Besides, AFB1 adsorption potential of S. cerevisiae and the commercial product was also investigated. Different concentrations of the commercial product alone and in the presence of inactivated yeast were analyzed by Aspergillus growth inhibition test, aflatoxin production by Aspergillus species, and AFB1 adsorption capacity. AFB1 detection and quantification were carried out by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography. The inactivated yeast and commercial product combination were effective in reducing A. flavus and A. parasiticus growth. A. flavusproduced less AFB1 after the inactivated yeast treatment, whereas A. parasiticus produced significantly less AFB1under a combination of inactivated yeast and 50% CP. Regarding AFB1 adsorption, 100% CP displayed the highest adsorption capacity at 10 ng mL-1 AFB1. At 25 ng mL-1 AFB1, only the treatment comprising inactivated yeast associated with 50% CP led to AFB1 adsorption, albeit at low levels. It was concluded that the association between the commercial additive and inactivated S. cerevisiae was effective in reducing the growth of fungi and there was AFB1 adsorption activity.

Abstract:
Hematuria is a relatively common manifestation in dogs and cats secondary to disorders of the urinary tract, such as bacterial cystitis and urolithiasis, with its treatment being limited to the elimination of the primary cause. However, when hematuria is persistent or capable of causing significant hematological disorders, other less common causes should be investigated. A dog, pit bull, male, 12 years old, was admitted in the Hospital Veterinário da Universidade de Uberlândia (Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Uberlândia) with a major complaint of severe urinary bleeding 10 days ago. Laboratory tests showed normocytic and normochromic anemia, associated to intense hematuria. Ultrasound images revealed alterations compatible with chronic cystitis. Based on the results of the laboratory and imaging tests, treatments with antibiotic therapy associated to blood transfusions were started and the animal was referred for bladder biopsy. The histopathologic examination revealed lymphoplasmacytic hemorrhagic cystitis, a rare and very aggressive disease, which presents similar descriptions in human beings, but not yet described in dogs.

Abstract:
The diagnosis of umbilical infections in neonates can be obtained from clinical signs, but the intracavitary involvement of structures and associated complications can be underestimated, compromising the establishment of adequate therapeutic approaches or prognosis. This case report presents the clinical, imaging, pathological and microbiological aspects of an umbilical infection in calves. Physical examination of the animal identified apathy, low body score, increased volume in the umbilical region and joints. The abdominal palpation identified firm structures in topography of the arteries and umbilical vein. Imaging examinations of the abdomen and joints were performed. Multiple, hyperechogenic focal structures have been identified in the liver, as well as cylindrical and firm structures in topography of the arteries and umbilical vein. In the joints, osteolytic changes, periosteal reactions, subchondral sclerosis and formation of osteophytes were seen. Umbilical panvasculitis triggered arthritis and an infectious process in the liver, the case being assessed as having an unfavorable prognosis and the animal being referred for euthanasia. At necropsy, multifocal abscesses were observed in the pleura, ribs, omentum, spleen and liver. There was granulomatous exudate in the urinary vesicle. The affected joints presented thickening of the joint capsule with the presence of exudate. In the microbiological analysis of liver fragments, urinary vesicle content and joint exudate, Proteus mirabilis with resistance to antimicrobials was identified. Imaging studies collaborated with the establishment of the prognosis and conduct adopted, and must, whenever possible, be included in the clinical examination. In case of death, necropsy allows a correct association of clinical signs and imaging findings.

Abstract:
Patellar dislocation is one of the main osteoarticular diseases described in the surgical routine of pet animals, the treatment of which differs according to the degree of dislocation based on the clinical changes presented by each patient. The present report aims to describe the association of the femoral corrective osteotomy technique, total trochlear replacement of the knee by prosthetics, and tibial tuberosity transposition with a tool for correction of grade IV patellar dislocation in a 1.5-year-old German Spitz dog with femoral varus deviation and external tibial torsion. The treatment allowed the correction of femoral bone deformation, realignment of the quadriceps extensor mechanism, and permanent maintenance of the patella on the prosthetic trochlear sulcus with early functional return of the limb, absence of pain, and lameness.

Abstract:
Staphylococcus aureus is one of the main agents isolated from bovine mastitis cases, characterized by lower cure rates compared to other pathogens causing this disease. This phenomenon is mainly explained by the multiresistance acquisition to antimicrobials and the ability of S. aureus to form biofilms on biotic and abiotic surfaces. In this work 15 samples of S. aureus isolated from the automated milking facility were analyzed regarding the resistance profile to antimicrobials, virulence factors (capsule production, hemolysin, and protease) and adhesion capacity under different temperatures (42±1°C, 36±1°C, 25±1°C, 9±1°C, and 3±1°C). All isolates showed methicillin-resistant (MRSA) characteristics and multidrug resistance profile to the antimicrobials tested (penicillin G, chloramphenicol, oxacillin, cephalexin, tetracycline, amoxicillin + clavulanic acid, sulfa + trimetropim, gentamicin, doxycycline, ceftiofur, neomycin, and vancomycin) with an IRMA index between 0.5 and 1.0. Five isolates were resistant to vancomycin (VRSA), two were resistant to all active principles, and the others to at least six of these drugs. Adhesion capacity and biofilm formation were found in 3 of the 5 evaluated temperatures, including the cooling conditions. Regarding the virulence factors, 86.7% of the isolates formed capsules, 60% revealed the presence of protease, 26.7% expressed the α-hemolysin factor, and 13.3% of them presented β-hemolysin. The fact that all isolates presented MRSA characteristics represents a potential risk to those exposed to this agent, and the formation of biofilm in liners even after the use of detergents and sanitization highlights the urgency of searching for alternatives for dispersion of the biofilm by S. aureusin the automated milking facility.

Abstract:
The physical examination has several stages, one of which is the measurement of body temperature, when it exceeds the physiological values is indicative of some disease or hyperthermia, for this in veterinary medicine the mercury or digital thermometer is commonly used. The objective of this work is to compare if there is a difference between the mercury thermometer and the infrared thermometer or digital thermometer, as well as to identify if there is a difference between the measurement locations with the infrared thermometer and the mercury column thermometer and digital thermometer. Infrared temperature was evaluated in three places: oral mucosa, pinna and anal or vaginal mucosa (females), then a digital thermometer, followed by mercury, which was used as a reference standard. There was a statistical difference between the mercury thermometer and the infrared thermometer, when measured on the anal or vaginal mucosa and on the oral mucosa. The infrared thermometer, in the ear, and the digital thermometer did not differ from the mercury thermometer, demonstrating that these present similar values during the temperature measurement. The infrared thermometer proved to be little invasive and fast when compared to the others. However, some limitations were observed in the measurement of body temperature with the infrared thermometer measured in the ear. It is concluded that the infrared thermometer, used in the ear, and the digital thermometer are equivalent to the mercury thermometer and can be used in horses, however, more studies on this topic are still needed.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to compare imprint and spreading techniques for the isolation and identification of colonies of pathogenic and non-pathogenic fungus in the claws of semidomiciliated cats. For that propose, 150 cats were evaluated, subdivided into three groups of 50 animals. In the first and second groups, the cats were submitted to the imprint technique in Petri dishes containing Selective Mycobiotic Agar: In the first group, the cats were subjected underwent antisepsis with 70% ethanol of the claws of the thoracic limbs and in the second group the animals were subjected underwent antisepsis with 70% ethanol of the claws of only one of the thoracic limbs. The third group was submitted to the spreading technique, whose material was collected by rubbing a sterile swab moistened with brain-heart infusion broth, in the claws of the forelimbs, where an aliquot of the material was transferred to Petri dishes containing Selective Mycobiotic Agar. The material was stored at 25°C for 30 days. The readings were performed on days 5, 7, 15, and 30 post incubation. Using the imprinttechnique performed under the conditions of this experiment, we were not able to isolate and identify the colonies because since day 5, they were overlapped. From the spreading technique, Mucor sp. (54,34%), Rhodotorula sp. (28,26%), Fusarium sp. (21,73%), Aspergillus sp. (21,73%), Trichoderma sp. (19,56%), Penicillium sp. (19,56%), Cladosporium sp. (10,86%), Rhizopus sp. (8,68%), Acremonium sp. (6,5%), Exophialia sp. (6,5%), Paecilomyces sp. (4,34%), Trichosporon sp. (4,34%), and Geotrichum sp. (2,17%) were isolated. It was concluded that the spreading technique proved to be useful in isolating fungal colonies from feline claws, and the animals do not present symptoms, which signals the importance of them as possible sources of exposure for tutors. The cats were negative for Sporothrix sp. by the imprint and spreading techniques.

Abstract:
The diarrhea in calves, caused by Salmonella spp., provocates serious economic damage to cattle farming. This study aimed was to verify the occurrence of diarrhea and the isolation of strains of Salmonella spp. in diarrheal feces of calves from farms located in the Sertão from the state of Alagoas municipalities, and to characterize the in vitro resistance profile of Salmonella spp. isolated against conventional antimicrobials. The study was carried out with 431 calves from 10 to 90 days old. Of the total number of animals evaluated, 111 presented a diarrhea table, being analysed 111 samples of diarrhoeal faeces. The samples were sown in enrichment broths and selective culture media and the phenotypic and molecular characterization were performed. Among the animals evaluated, 25.75% (111/431) had diarrhea. The presence of Salmonella spp. was evidenced in 13.33% (2/15) of the studied establishments. Have been isolated 2.71% (3/111) strains of Salmonella spp. and have all been shown to be resistant to Cefotaxime and sensitive to Ciprofloxacin, Gentamicin, Amoxicillin, Ampicillin and Norfloxacin. Salmonella spp. and other infectious agents associated with diarrhea were confirmed in calves in the Sertão Alagoas mesoregion. The antimicrobial potential of the tested drugs reinforces the importance of their responsible and judicious use in the treatment of Salmonellosis, not being indicated the antibiotic therapy with Cefotaxima. The treatment based on Gentamicin, Amoxicillin, Ampicillin, Ciprofloxacin and Norfloxacin in the treatment of these animals, is recommended.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anthelmintic effect of the root and stem of Uncaria guianensis on eggs and larvae of gastrointestinal nematodes from naturally infected sheep. The extract of the root of Uncaria guianensis was tested at concentrations of 0.57mg / mL and 1.14mg / mL and the extract of the stem of Uncaria guianensis at concentrations of 1.25mg / mL and 2.5mg / mL. The animals were divided in groups of five animals each, where four groups received the plant extract and a dose / concentration, one group received the anti-helminthic closantel and another group received only distilled water, totaling six treated groups. Ten mL were applied orally on days treatment, in a single dose for the groups treated with the extract, the closantel group received the dose recommended by the manufacturer and the negative group received 10 mL of distilled water. Stool samples were collected weekly for parasitological analysis and blood for hematocrit. The results of the OPG were analyzed after log transformation (x + 1) and submitted to one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s test at 5% of probability. Third stage L3 larvae were recovered from co-culture and subjected to the 5% tukey test. The results showed a reduction in the number of eggs per gram of feces, in the group treated with Uncaria guianensis root at a concentration of 1.14mg / mL and in the chemically treated group, where they obtained a statistically significant reduction (p <5%), when compared to the other treated groups, presenting 69% and 66% respectively in the reduction percentage. Regarding the number of third-stage larvae of gastrointestinal nematodes recovered from sheep, after treatment they observed that the groups treated with closantel, Uncaria guianensis root at a concentration of 1.14mg / mL and a stem of Uncaria guianensis at a concentration of 1.25mg / mL were statistically different (p <5%) from the other treatments, with 68%, 68% and 86% respectively reduction in the number of larvae. As for the hematocrit, the results remained within the reference standards for the Amazon Biome. Thus, we conclude that Uncaria guianensis has ovicidal and larvicidal activity on gastrointestinal nematodes in sheep.

Abstract:
Pelviology means the study of the pelvis, a structure formed by bones, ligaments and muscles. One of the subjects of pelviology corresponds to pelvimetry, which deals with the measurement of pelvic measurements, and which has a close relationship with reproduction. This study aims to verify the correlation between some body parameters and pelvic measurements. We used 50 N.R.D. female canine cadavers, varying in age and size, from euthanasia or natural death from the HOVET and Veterinary Clinics of the cities of XXX. Initially the body length, body height, thoracic perimeter, and body weight parameters were measured. Then, the bony pelvis was removed from the cadaver, sectioning the spine at the level between the lumbar vertebrae 5 (L5) and 6 (L6) and the femur in its middle third. Immediately after this procedure, the excess soft tissue was removed. In pelvimetry the following diameters were measured: thigh bone; transverse; acetabular; lateral ischiatic; true conjugate and vertical. The following mean values and standard deviation were obtained: 1) Body parameters: body weight (Kg) - 8.40 ± 5.86; height (cm) – 35.50 ± 11.76; body length (cm) – 48.60 ± 13.48; and thoracic perimeter (cm) – 43.80 ± 14.24; and 2) Pelvic diameters (cm): thigh bone – 3.313 ± 0.830; transversal – 3.864 ± 0.900; acetabular – 4.326 ± 1.140; lateral ischiatic – 7.171 ± 2.140; true conjugate – 4.720 ± 1.270; and vertical – 4.697 ± 1.270. Finally, it was verified that there is a significant positive correlation between body parameters and pelvic diameters

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of antibodies against Leptospira spp in horses used by communities of informal waste collectors who use horse-drawn cartsin Guaíba, Rio Grande do Sul. Additionally, interviews were conducted with owners to assess the characteristics of the horses, their environment, and work. Serological testing for Leptospira spp. was performed on blood samples collected from 54 horses using the microscopic agglutination test. Results showed that 50.0% of the horses were seropositive for Leptospira spp and the most frequent serogroup was LeptospiraCanicola (88. 8%), followed by Leptospira Pyrogenes (11.1%), Leptospira Bataviae (7.4%), Leptospira Hebdomadis (7.4%), Leptospira Icterohaemorrhagiae (3.7%), Leptospira Australis (3.7%), Leptospira Pomona (3.7%) and Leptospira Copenhageni (3.7%). There were no statistically significant associations between seropositivity for Leptospira spp and age, gender, body score, water source, type of food storage, cohabitation with dogs, rodent infestation, residential flooding, and waste removal services. The prevalence of the Canicola serogroup, as well as a large number of dogs in close relationship with thehorses and the waste collectors, draws attention to the potential of these animals to become a source of Leptospira spp. infection in humans and other animals.

Abstract:
Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL), also known as kala-azar, is a disseminated protozoan infection caused by the Leishmania donovani complex. Traditionally, the definitive diagnosis is made by detecting amastigotes in biological tissue samples. In August 2015, an apparently healthy, young adult, female, mongrel dog from the Zoonosis Control Center of the Rolim de Moura,Rondônia, was subjected to the canine visceral leishmaniasis diagnosis. The diagnosis was conducted using bone marrow aspirate smears and popliteal lymph node smears by Fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB); stained slides with Diff-Quick screened for Leishmania amastigotes by means of direct optical microscopic examination (100×). Lymph node and bone marrow aspirates were used to investigate the presence of Leishmania infantum chagasi DNA by real-time PCR. The popliteal lymph node positive result was observed in typical amastigotes, presenting nucleus and kinetoplasts associated with lymphoblastic proliferation, reactive macrophages, plasmocytes (commonly Mott cells), eosinophils, and lymphoglandular hyperplasia. A positive bone marrow sample resulted from the observation of amastigotes in the monocyte cytoplasm or free on the smear background. The presence of the L. infantum kDNA was detected in lymph node and bone marrow FNAB samples. Abstract:

Abstract:
