Abstract:
The research aims to determine the effect of vocabulary mastery on students' English descriptive writing skills and the impact of reading habits on students' English descriptive writing skills, as well as the effect of vocabulary mastery and reading habits together on students' English descriptive writing skills. The population in this study was students of class X State Senior High School in Cibinong and the sample was 120 students. The sampling technique was processed using a simple random sampling method. Descriptive statistical methods were used in this research. The research instrument used was a questionnaire on students' vocabulary mastery, reading habits, and a descriptive text writing skill test. Data analysis used SPSS version 25, the significant level of = 0.05. The requirement analysis use normality test, homogeneity test, two-way ANOVA. The result of this research is vocabulary mastery by the value of sig. = 0.77 < 0.05 does not have a significant effect on students' descriptive text writing skills, reading habits have a significant influence on students' descriptive text writing skills by the value of sig. = 0.01 < 0.05 and there is no significant effect of vocabulary mastery and reading habits on students' writing skills by the value of sig. = 0.01 < 0.265.

Abstract:
English is interesting. In learning English, we start from learning the basic things. A part of Speech is the basic aspect in English. Verbs is parts of speech. By knowing verbs, a person can make simple sentence. It can be used to master vocabulary and to motivate someone to be fluently in English. The title of this research is an analyzing verb in “A Fresh N Fruity Spring” story book by Lauren Cecil. The aim of this research is to find out verbs in a story book, in order to be mastered in vocabulary and making simple sentence from it. The method which will be applied in this research is a descriptive qualitative method.  Key words: parts of speech, verb, story book

Abstract:
- Writing an essay is quite tricky as it needs more than pouring all ideas in written arrangement. Those ideas must be gathered, organized, and planned to be arranged in an outline. The main goal of this study was aimed at examining the students’ outlines and their essays based on their outlines. To evaluate their outline, the framework was based on the outline checklist proposed by Zemach & Rumisek (2005). This study employed qualitative study and involved 30 students in the third semester of 2020/2021 academic year enrolled in the Essay Writing course, at English Department, Faculty of Letters, Universitas Pamulang (Unpam). The results of constructing an outline, it showed that the highest percentage (73%) in constructing an outline was in organization for paragraphs in the right order. On the other hand, insSupport for each main idea related to the thesis statement had the lowest percentage (40%). However, the results of generating essay writing based on their outline, there were 80% students who were successful following their outline when they created their essay. It can be concluded that most of students when they produced an outline and developed their ideas to write an essay from their outline, they followed their outline. On the other hand, they had challenge in developing support for Each main idea related to the thesis statement.

Abstract:
Abstrak : Artikel bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kebahasaan wujud respon positif anggota grup WhatsApp fashion online. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data berupa ungkapan yang mengandung respon positif sebanyak 10 tanggapan. Data tersebut bersumber dari ungkapan anggota grup WhatsApp fashion online “Dasterinn”. Objek penelitian berupa wujud bahasa. Teknik pengumpulan data yakni observasi (wawancara) dan dokumentasi (catat). Teknik validitas yang digunakan ialah triangulasi. Triangulasi teori yang dipilih yaitu teori komunikasi antarpribadi interaksi simbolik menurut Herbert Blumer (1969) yaitu (1) adanya tindakan berdasarkan makna yang diberikan, (2) makna dalam interaksi, dan (3) makna melalui proses interaksi. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa kebahasaan wujud respon positif anggota grup WhatsApp fashion online disampaikan melalui ciri satuan penanda lingual yang di dalamnya terdapat modalitas intensional, kata ganti, kata kerja, dan leksikal serta, memiliki hubungan dengan tanggapan persetujuan yang dibagi menjadi dua makna yaitu makna tersurat (‘mau’ dan ‘mau’ + ‘tambah’) dan makna tersirat (‘mau’ + ‘keep’, ‘ambil’, dan ‘pesan’). Kata kunci: bahasa; respon positif; grup WhatsApp.

Abstract:
Nowadays, watching a movie has become a daily activity for some people, even become a hobby. Sometimes humans just watch and forget some important things we can take from the movie. One of them is a moral value that we can set as an example to deal with various problems of life. That is the purpose of this paper. The writer wants to convey the moral values that can be taken from the film to the readers or viewers of the movie. In analyzing this paper, The writer uses descriptive qualitative method and the techniques by descriptive observation (collecting). So here, The Writer will examine the bumblebee film with data in the form of words and images from the film. Then the procedure for collecting data using observation techniques (field notes). Collecting technique the data needed and the theory is through internet research. The result of this research is first, types of moral values in Bumblebee that appear in the movie and the second is which types of moral value most appear in the movie. There are eight types of moral values in this movie. They are patriotism, work hard, friendly or communicative, creative, care to social, curious, independent, and appreciate achievement

Abstract:
Deictic expression is a noticeable item in linguistic studies to recognize the meaning of a specific context. Thus, pragmatic analysis in this research is to find five kinds of deixis those are: personal deixis (first, second, and third person deixis), place deixis, time deixis, social deixis and discourse deixis. The theory that is used in this research is the theory of deixis by Levinson (1983). The present study investigates the use of Deictic expression in five children picture storybook. The titles of each book are Reba wants ice cream, Gappu can't dance, Bunty and Bubbly, A new pet in the family, and under my bed. In this research, the researcher conducted a descriptive qualitative research. From two research problem of this study What types of deixis found in the children's story books? And what are the patterns of the Deixis types in children's storybooks? the researchers found that in all story books, personal deixis is the most identifiable type of deixis. Some pattern of the Deixis types in Children's storybooks like the word; I, now, there, this, mother was found in the sentences of the story. Key words: deixis, picture storybook, pragmatics

Abstract:
The aims of this research were: 1) to identify whether peer-editing can enhance the students’ skill in writing a narrative text and 2) to describe the situation of the classroom when peer-editing technique is implemented. The method research used was classroom action research which consisted of two cycle. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research subject was the students of grade XI Bahasa dan Budaya of an SMA in Kudus in the academic year of 2019/2020. It comprised of 35 students with 12 boys and 23 girls. The qualitative data were collected by observation, questionnaire, and interview. The quantitative data were collected by conducting tests. The qualitative data were analyzed by condensing the data, displaying the data, and drawing conclusion. The quantitative data were analyzed by comparing the mean score of the students’ pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2. The result of the research showed that there were improvements on the students’ skill in writing a narrative text when peer-editing technique is implemented.Keywords: writing narrative text, peer-editing, classroom action research.

Abstract:
Literature is expressions of artistic and imaginative facts as manifestation human life, through language which as media which has good efects towards human life. Literature is a form of creative works which has obejcts human and their living used language as a media. Literature is art activities that has signs as the tool and imaginative.The writer analyzed a poetry by Robert Frost “ The Road Not Taken”. This poetry published in 1916 and became the most famoaus poetry of frost. The analysis focuses on the theme of the poetry. This poetry inspired by real story of frost friend, Thomas Thompson.The theme of this poetry describes about a deep regret of the speaker, because he had made the wrong choice and didn’t take the other road. At first, he thought that the divergent choices were equally same, that is would end goods. Abstract:
– This research was a pragmatic approach, which was focused on politeness strategies found in Pesbukers Variety show. The objectives of this research were to analyzed types of politeness strategies, to find out the most dominant type of politeness strategies, and to know factors influenced the choice of politeness strategies found in Pesbukers variety show. The theory of politeness strategies by Brown and Levinson (1987) was used to analyze the politeness strategies. The research method was descriptive qualitative research with content analysis, because the data were collected from document. The researcher chooses episode 10 broadcasted on 15th May 2019 with duration 1 hour 12 minutes. There were some steps in collected the data, such as: familiarizing and organizing, coding and reducing, interpreting and representing. The result showed that there were37politeness strategies found in Pesbukers variety show, they were: bald on-record 6 (16%), positive politeness 26 (70%), negative politeness 4 (11%), and off-record 1 (3%).The most dominant type of politeness strategies found in Pesbukers variety show was positive politeness. Positive politeness was done by speaker and hearer to made enjoyable situation, build good relation, good interaction. The factor influenced choice of politeness strategies found in Pesbukers was circumstances. Circumstances deal with sociological variables include the relative power2 (5%) and social distance35 (95%). Relative power (P) used a greater degree of politeness with others who have higher power or authority. Social distance (D) saw as the composite of psychological factors such as status and age. In conclusion, with this research we must be careful when used a language to communicate with other so that the conversation become run well.

Abstract:
The objectives of the research are to know the translation shift and the translation equivalence in The Sea of Monsters novel which is translated into “Laut Para Monster”. This research uses qualitative method through content analysis approach. The writers compared the source text (ST) and the target text (TT) then, did the analysis by using theories proposed by (Catford,1965) and (Nida,1982). The results show that the most shifting is unit shift, 65% and it reaches 77% formal equivalence. Those results show that TSu is well transferred into TSa in term of form and content. It can be seen from the translation shift which only happen at the word level, it seems that the translator is faithful to source text, while seen by the translation equivalence, seems that the writer is also faithful to target text.

Abstract:
The research aims to find the classification types of code switching and code mixing in twivortiare 2 novel then describe the influencing using types of code switching and code mixing in the novel. Descriptive qualitative method are used as the methodology in this research which means classify types of code switching and code mixing every sentences clearly through the dialogue of the novel. The research focused on the types of code switching (inter-sentential, intra-sentential, and tag-switching) and types of code mixing (insertion, alternation, and Congruent Lexicalization) while combine with influencing of used it. The results of the research many utterance are most of utterance using code mixing – insertation and code switching – intra-setential.

Abstract:
This research is entitled Deixis in the Business Article of The Jakarta Post. This research is conducted in order to find out the deixis in the business article of the Jakarta Post and five articles are taken as the samples. The data is analyzed through a pragmatic theory stated by Levinson theory. The theory divides the types of deixis into 5 types, (1) person deixis (2) place deixis (3) time deixis (4) discourse deixis (5) social deixis. Problem discussed in this research: 1) what types of deixis found in the article of Jakarta Post? 2)what is the dominant type of deixis found in the article of Jakarta Post? The research method in this research used is qualitative description. The data of this research were taken from the article of the Jakarta Post. Finally, the findings show: 1) all types of deixis found in the article of the Jakarta Post, 2) the dominant types of deixis found in the article of the Jakarta Post.

Abstract:
Sebagai salah satu genre karya sastra, puisi menjadi representasi universal yang menguatkan komunikasi antarindividu melalui gaya bahasa yang digunakan oleh sang penyair. Penggambaran suasana bertentangan yang dapat dicapai melalui paradoks membuat puisi mampu memacu daya analitis pembaca karena mereka harus mengulik makna dibalik pernyataan yang kontradiktif. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk mengidentifikasi paradoks dan cara pengungkapannya dalam kumpulan puisi ”The Sun and Her Flowers” karya penyair yang terkenal di media sosial Instagram, Rupi Kaur. Analisis didasarkan pada fitur khas paradoks dari Morner dan Rausch (1991). Penelitian kualitatif berupa analisis konten (content analysis) ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan stilistika melalui langkah interpretasi puisi (Griffith, 2010). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa paradoks yang ditemukan bersifat retorik dengan dua cara interpretasi untuk memahami hubungan kontradiktif yang terjadi yaitu (1) paradoks yang diungkapkan melalui diksi dan (2) paradoks yang disampaikan melalui deskripsi paradoksal. Tujuan penggambaran suasana melalui gaya bahasa paradoks lebih dari sekadar membangun interpretasi. Paradoks dalam puisi memancing pemikiran kritis pembaca yang menginterpretasi makna di balik proposisi bertentangan.Kata kunci: paradoks, diksi, deskripsi paradoksal

Abstract:
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis implikatur pada berita terjemahan pada situs berita BBCIndonesia.com dengan membandingkan dengan situs berita aslinya BBC.com. Dengan menggunakan metode analisis teks, penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan berparadigma konstruktivis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan implikatur memiliki peran yang sangat signifikan dalam proses penerjemahan. Pemahaman terhadap implikatur melalui prinsip kerja sama Grice menjadikan proses penerjemahan lebih memperhatikan keseimbangan makna antara bahasa sumber dan bahasa sasaran. Itu dikarenakan proses penerjemahan merupakan bentuk komunikasi antara penerjemah dengan pembacanya.

Abstract:
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis film The Pianist yang disutradarai oleh Roman Polanski pada tahun 2002. Analisis tersebut dilakukan berdasarkan sudut pandang filsafat politik yang dikemukakan oleh Giorgio Agamben. Analisis dalam penelitian ini ialah mengenai kondisi sosial ketika terjadinya invasi Polandia oleh Jerman Nazi yang totaliter pada tahun 1939 yang tervisualisasi dalam film The Pianist. Kondisi sosial yang dimaksud di antaranya berupa HAM masyarakat sipil yang menjadi suatu problematik bagi Polandia jika dilindungi atau tidak dilindungi dan kelompok-kelompok yang di-homo sacer-kan ketika terjadinya invasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Polandia berada di luar hukum atau menangguhkan hukum untuk melindungi dirinya dari invasi Jerman Nazi. Oleh sebab itu, Polandia tidak memenuhi kewenangannya untuk memberi keamanan, keadilan, dan pelayanan sosial, terutama terhadap kelompok yang di-homo sacer-kan. Kelompok-kelompok yang di-homo sacer-kan dalam hal ini ialah Yahudi Polandia. Kelompok Yahudi Polandia mengalami penangguhan dan diskriminasi terhadap hak kewarganegaraan mereka. Penangguhan dan diskriminasi tersebut merupakan dampak dari kewenangan Polandia yang berada di luar hukum untuk melindungi kedaulatan negara atas invasi Jerman Nazi.

Abstract:
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan ejaan dan kesalahan kalimat dalam surat izin siswa MTs Al-Muslimun Kawistolegi. Penelitian ini tergolong penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian ini adalah kesalahan ejaan dan kesalahan kalimat dalam surat izin siswa MTs Al-Muslimun Kawistolegi. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik tes, teknik simak, dan teknik catat dengan instrumen penelitian berupa soal tes perintah menulis surat izin kepada siswa dan lembar korpus data. Metode simak adalah cara yang digunakan untuk memperoleh data dilakukan dengan menyimak penggunaan bahasa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan hal-hal sebagai berikut. Dalam surat izin siswa MTs Al-Muslimun Kawistolegi terdapat kesalahan ejaan berupa kesalahan penulisan kata dasar, kesalahan pemakaian huruf kapital, kesalahan penulisan kata depan, kesalahan penulisan singkatan, dan kesalahan pemakaian tanda baca titik dan koma. Kesalahan kalimat yang ditemukan dalam penelitian ini adalah kalimat tidak gramatikal karena tidak adanya subjek dan predikat dan kalimat tidak hemat karena adanya kata yang tidak jelas fungsinya serta adanya dua kata yang sama maknanya sama.

Abstract:
Artikel ini bermaksud untuk mengungkapkan dekonstruksi sosok abjek yang diangkat dalam tiga cerita pendek karya Intan Paramaditha. Ketiga cerita pendek tersebut mengetengahkan sosok perempuan yang dijadikan abjek. Mereka digambarkan seperti monster yang menakutkan dan harus disingkirkan karena bukan bagian dari diri yang bersih. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deksripsi analisis yang berupaya mengungkapkan persoalan perempuan abjek secara mendetail dan komprehensif. Dengan menggunakan teori abjek yang digagas oleh Kristeva (1982) penelitian ini mengungkapkan perempuan yang direpresentasikan sebagai monster yang menjijikan, menakutkan, dan meneror adalah konstruksi patriarki. Mereka dibungkam dan tidak mampu menyuarakan dirinya. Dekonstruksi yang di hadirkan teks mampu mengaburkan dikotomi perempuan baik-baik dan perempuan jalang sehingga membongkat konstuksi negatif dari sistem patriarki yang lekat dengan sosok abjek dan merayakan kembalinya tubuh maternal.

Abstract:
Permainan Dart Board adalah permainan yang menggunakan alat bernama ‘anak panah.’ Anak panah itu akan diarahkan ke sasaran yang berupa papan sasaran. Kalau dalam permainan internasional, ada aturan khusus dan hitungan tertentu untuk menilai keberhasilan dari para pemain, namun kali ini permainan Dart Board ini ditujukan untuk melatih fokus seseorang. di mana pada permainan‘Dart Board’ ini, kita mencoba mengumpulkan fokus kita pada satu sasaran yang berupa papan bundar. Latihan fokus ini diperlukan di segala bidang, tapi kali ini penulis akan membahas latihan fokus berdasarkan bidang bahasa, khususnya pada kemampuan mendengarkan (Listening Comprehension Skill) pada waktu mengerjakan soal TOEP (Test of English Prociency).

Abstract:
The aims of this research are to know about kinds of affix and how they are used in a story. Affixation is a part of morphology and it is a morphological process. Morphology is the study of the internal structure of words, so it deals with the structure of words. It also relates with morpheme. There are two kinds of morphemes, they are: free morpheme and bound morpheme and bound morphemes are related to derivational and inflectional. Derivational morphology is related to affixes. Affixes can be distinguished by two primary types, they are: prefixes and suffixes. Prefixes are attached at the beginning of a lexical item or base morpheme; meanwhile, suffixes are attached at the end of a lexical item or base morpheme. Affixes are related to affixation. Affixation is adding established prefix and suffix to the existing base. There are two ways of affixes; (1) according to the positions and (2) according to the functions. According to the positions, there 3 types of affixes, they are prefix, infix and suffix. According to the functions, there 2 types of affixes, they are derivational affixes and inflectional affixes. Derivational affixes cause the semantic change, such as bake – baker, happy – unhappy, like – dislike; and category change, such as run (verb) – runner (noun), dangerous (adjective) – dangerously (adverb), writing (noun) – write (verb). Affixations are common used in a story. They are used as the words change a form or meaning depends on the sentence. The participants of this research are the students at one of English Courses in Gading Serpong, Tangerang. Class Action Research (CAR) was used as the method to do the research. The results of this research are: there are 2 prefixes found in the story, they are re- and step-, meanwhile there 5 suffixes found in the story, they are -er, -ed, -s, -ly and -ing.

Abstract:
Poetry/poem as one of a literary works is definitely an interesting subject to be analyzed. In a poem there are some elements that are valuable as an analysis source. One of them is Imagery. Imagery is used in a poem to help the readers in understanding and comprehending the whole poem because through imagery the readers can imagine every word, they are reading in the poem so they can see, feel, touch, hear, taste and smell the thing that is described by the speaker/poet. Literary work also can be analyzed by its extrinsic elements which is literary criticism or multi disciplines. One of phenomenal literary criticism is psychoanalytic perspective. Through psychoanalytic perspective the work of literature reveals the psychoanalytic aspect of the depth true feeling of the author. The purpose of this analysis is to know what kinds of imagery contained in Dover Beach poem written by Matthew Arnold. The method of this analysis is using descriptive and qualitative methods by reading and underlining the line and stanza contains imagery and every line and stanza reveals the psychoanalytic aspect. The result of this analysis is the writer finds out there are some imagery contained in Dover Beach poem. Dover Beach poem contains Visual Imagery, Olfactory Imagery, Auditory Imagery, Kinesthetic Imagery, and Organic Imagery. Abstract:
Literature intended for children is a literary work that contains the world of children, which is much related to the system of language and signs, which are used in accordance with the level of intellectual and emotional development of children. Anime 2112 Nen Doraemon Stand By Me is the work of director Yonetani Yoshimoto with a duration of about 1.5 hours. Doraemon is a cat robot that was mass produced by a factory in 2112. This study aims to obtain information about: portrayal of manga characters Doraemon's special story, namely Doraemon Stand By Me. Nobita which shows the existence of several signs that refer to his representation. By using qualitative methods and accompanied by semiotic theory and representation of Barthes, as a research scalpel, the researcher intends to examine the representations of Nobita, Doraemon's best friend. Abstract:
Abstrak - The purposes of this study is to describe what and how memes in social media Instagram as the representation of critics from netizen. The approach of this study is Critical Discourse Analysis by Fairclough with three dimensions; text, discursive practice, and social practice. The writer chooses meme in @fakartun Instagram account as the data source because meme full of funny picture and simple text, easy to understand, and lead the reader to think twice to find the implied meaning in it. This research is focused on meme in @fakartun Instagram account, especially pictures, text, and caption. The conclusion of this study is the writer found social media as a space for netizen to get and upload many information widely and effectively. Abstract:
- The goal of this reaserach is to get data about the effect of peer tutor learnings, individulalearnings, and dicipline to the result of english learning at SMP Anugerah Abadi Pamulang Tangerang Selatan.The method of this research is experimental. The sample are 60 students that consist of 3O experimental class, and 3O control class that uses sampling technique, cluster sampling of learning. It can be proved by Fo=7,087 and sig = 0,010 < 0,05. The data analysis uses ANOVA in two line. The result of this research shows are: (1) there is signifcant effect of peer tutor learnings to the result of english learning student, (2) there is significant effect between students dicipline to the result of english learning, (3) there is effect of interaction that signficant between students dicipline and peer tutor learnings to the result of english learning. This research has benefit to inprove the result of english learning by using peer tutor learnings, ndivudual learnings, and students dicipine in the class, and optimalization students in learning English. : Speaking is an important skill in learning English. However, the teacher still need an appropriate technique to teach speaking. So that, the writer used Information Gap technique in  learning English speaking. This study aims to apply Information-Gap techniques in teaching speaking English in 8th grade students at MTs.Al-Husna Depok. In this study, the writer uses A Classroom Action Research (CAR). The writer analyzes and collects data during the teaching process through; interviews, observation, literature study, and the internet. Moreover,  in order to collect the result of the significant differences before and after of using Information Gap, the writer uses pre-test and post-test during the observation. The research findings include: 1) Information Gap is an interesting technique in learning speaking, so that the students can enjoy the learning process. 2) With the Information Gap technique can make students more active in communication, and increase the courage and confidence of students. 3) In addition, by applying this technique students do not feel bored, because there are many different and interesting activities in Information Gap technique. Abstract:
New word formation cannot be avoided in the making sentences, paragraphs, and also to speak, because words are part of the language which develops interaction between individuals in a society as human communication. The nature of communication are verbal communication (oral and writing) and non verbal communication (sign language and symbols). People often use media in verbal communication, such as written media or mass media (newspaper, magazines, billboards, tabloids and banners). This research analyzed about the structure of words contained in the article Al Jazeera News entitled “Syria’s Refuge Children: Future lost to the war” which uses derivation and inflection word formation process. This research aims to know how word formation occurs and identifies how many new words are formed by derivation and inflection processes. Descriptive qualitative method uses in this research. It begins by reading theories of word formation which related to journal and books, determine the article, furthermore classifies the words that contain derivation and inflection process. Abstract:
Abstract : This research  aims to identify and analyze the effect of the learning interest and learning motivation variables toward student’s learning achievement. Method of data collection in this research is using the survey method with questionnaires. Population in this research is students of MTsN 6 Jakarta. Based on the results of the analysis, it indicates that the learning interest significantly influences the  learning achievement of the students of MTsN 6 Jakarta, shown by the t significant value of 0.001 smaller that α 0.05 with the regression coefficient of 0.224 Learning motivation has a significant effect on the learning achievement of the students of MTsN 6 indicated by the t significant value 0.028 less than α =0.05. Learning interest and learning motivation significantly influence the learning achievement of the students of MTsN 6 shown by F significant  value of 0.000 smaller than α=0.05 and are able  contribute to the learning Achievement variables of 0.470 or 47%. the remaining 53% is influenced by other variables that are not examined in this research.   Abstrak   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan pengaruh variabel minat dan motivasi belajar terhadap prestasi belajar siswa MTsN 6 Jakarta timur. Metode pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode survey melalui kuesioner. Berdasarkan hasil dari analisa penelitian ini, mengindikasikan bahwa minat belajar secara signifikan berpengaruh terhadap motivasi belajar siswa MtsN 6 Jakarta Timur, ditunjukan dari nilai signifikan si uji t =0.001 lebih kecil dari α =0.05 dengan koefisien regresi =0.224. Motivasi belajar secara signifikan berpengaruh terhadap prestasi belajar siswa MTsN 6, ditunjukan dengan nilai signifikansi uji t =0.028 lebih kecil dari α=0,05. Minat dan motivasi belajar secara simultan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap prestasi belajar siswa MTsN 6 Jakarta ditunjukan dari nilai signifikansi uji F =0,000 lebih kecil dari α=0.05 dan mampu memiliki kontribusi terhadap variabel kinerja sebesar 0.470 atau 47%. sisanya sebesar 53% dipengaruhi oleh variable lain yang tidak dianalusa dalam penelitian ini.

Bahasa Inggris tidak hanya untuk mereka saja, tetapi pula dengan memahami grammarnya (tata bahasanya). Dan, terkadang memahami grammar bahasa Inggris tidak mudah. Bagi mahasiswa bahasa Inggris menjadi sebuah keharusan. Ini untuk mengingatkan mereka dengan penggunaan dalam bahasa Inggris. Tata bahasa Inggris bagaikan tulang yang menguatkan dalam membuat kalimat, tanpanya tak berarti apa-apa. Tujuan dari analisis ini ialah menilai kecakapan pemahaman grammatika pada kelas bahasa Inggris semester dua di kampus. Penulis menggunakan Grammar Translation Method (GTM) untuk menilai kecakapan pemahaman grammatika, serta cara mereka mencari solusi dengan soal yang diberikan dosen, dan akan terlihat keterpahaman mereka. Abstract:
The research is aimed at finding out the social dimension of slang words which is uttered in film Animal Kingdom. The writer uses film as the main medium to analyze the construction of social dimension in slang utterance. The method of this study is descriptive content analysis. Data were collected with pursued based on unit analysis, identification, coding, and classification. The procedure of data analysis and interpretation adapted pattern made by Phillip Myring.. Some problems will be analyzed in this thesis are the social factors and social dimension can influence the use of slang. In this analysis, the writer finds that slang usually used in an informal situation and in the certain social class of society. The use of slang relates with social factors that consist of the participant, setting, topic, and function meanwhile social dimension affected it in social distance scale, status scale, formality scale, and two functional scales.

Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the differences of language use between two short-stories published in two teen magazines which represent gender. According to the content, context, and segment readers, HAI magazine is considered as teen male magazine while KAWANKU is considered as teen female magazine. The results of this study confirm the theory of gender in writing production proposed by Coates (1993) who stated that men tend to use a report style aiming to communicate factual information, whereas women more often use a rapport style which is more concerned with building and maintaining relationships. The two short-stories in HAI and Kawanku reflect the issue of gender construction in society through written discourse. Gendered language that occurs in the literary works such as short-story declare that the differences between male and female way of speak can be found in written texts.

Abstract:
The objective of the research is to know the effects of grammar and vocabulary mastery on students’ reading comprehension. This research is a survey at private universities in Bekasi. The total sample of the research is 80 students. The data collection technique of grammar mastery, vocabulary mastery, and reading comprehension is by conducting three sets of multiple choice tests consisting of 30 questions for each test. The data analysis technique of the research is multiple linear regression analysis. Before conducting the regression analysis, there are some prerequisite tests, among others the normality, linearity, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity test. The result of the research is: 1) There is a significant effect of grammar and vocabulary mastery jointly on students’ reading comprehension at private universities in Bekasi. 2) There is a significant effect of grammar mastery on students’ reading comprehension at private universities in Bekasi. 3) There is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery on students’ reading comprehension at private universities in Bekasi. Abstract:
Abstract - The purpose of this research was to find out whether there is a  significant  correlations between  vocabulary mastery and self esteem on students’ speaking skill. The population of this study was X grade students majoring in natural science at SMU 64 Jakarta Timur, while the sample was 60 students  were chosen randomly from those 3 classes. The writer used three instruments to gain the data :  a vocabulary test,  a speaking test, and a self esteem questionnaire.  A quantitative analysis that included descriptive statistic and the correlation and regression analysis tests were conducted to answer the research hypotheses. The research results found that  there is a significant simultaneous correlation between vocabulary mastery and self esteem on students’ speaking skill. This finding has proved  the views which are vocabulary as a main language component and self esteem as affective factor have contributions in developing learning language especially fon speaking skill. Abstract:
The aim of this final paper is to describe the use of English expression and terms used in hotel room reservation activities. As for the background of writing this paper is related to the importance of the use of English expression properly in accordance with standard operating procedure in a company oriented to the theory from experts. The writer uses a description method that begins with research in PT. Raja Kamar Indonesia. From the analysis of the data from this study contains of conversation and descriptions of terminologies in travel agent. The conclusion of this paper is that readers can understand the work activities of a telephone operator in the hotel reservation division. The activity of expression in English that is used is asking inquiry, reservation, amendment, cancellation and refund. In addition, knowledge of the terms in the reservation becomes inseparable from the activity of reservation work. The author hopes this paper can help readers to know more deeply related to science in the field of reservation.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to examine the presuppositions of Neneng Garut's utterances through pragmatic studies. This is a qualitative study with content analysis method because this study prioritizes the content approach of the speech. The data source of this research is Neneng Garut's utterances which contains presuppositions and implicature in Stand Up Comedy Academy (SUCA 3). Data provision of this analysis is done by using simak method that is applied through note-taking techniques. The results of this study indicate that Neneng Garut would like to convey that at present more and more cases of corruption have occurred and are increasingly difficult to stop it. This is said through the puncline and if we ask Indonesia for corruption free, it is very difficult, especially when we ask Radit to marry, it is more difficult. In addition, in this study also found some presuppositions in her utterances such as, presuppositions about the difficulty and limited transportation in remote region of Garut, the lack of entertainment, trust in mysticism that is still very thick, and a way of thinking in society. In addition, through pragmatic, presupposition, and understanding the implicit meanings, the writer hopes that the results of this paper will be able to contribute ideas to the reading community about the importance of hearing and understanding the speech of the partners in a society that has lately faded.

Abstract:
Abstrak – Bahan bacaan sastra memiliki peran penting sebagai upaya pembentukan karakter dan pengembangan kepribadian anak. Namun tidak semua bahan bacaan sastra dapat dibaca oleh anak-anak. Bahan bacaan sastra anak perlu disesuaikan berdasarkan tahap perkembangan intelektual. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan karakteristik bahan bacaan sastra anak sesuai dengan tahap perkembangan intelektual dan nilai-nilai yang terdapat pada bahan bacaan anak. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif-deskriptif berjenis riset kepustakaan (library research). Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, dapat dijelaskan bahwa bahan bacaan sastra yang sesuai dengan tahap perkembangan intelektual anak dapat dikelompokkan menjadi 4 (empat) tahapan, yaitu (1) tahap sensori motor period (0-2 tahun) yakni anak lebih suka dengan suatu bunyi-bunyian dan dendang lagu, (2) tahap praoperasional period (2-7 tahun) yakni bahan bacaan yang sesuai seperti buku-buku yang didominasi oleh gambar, (3) tahap operasional konkret period (7-11tahun) yakni bahan bacaan yang sesuai adalah buku-buku narasi atau cerita yang dapat membawa anak memproyeksikan dirinya ke dalam waktu dan tempat seperti kisah, petualangan atau sastra tradisional, (4) tahap operasional formal period (11-12 tahun) yakni tahap dimana anak sudah dapat memahami buku-buku alur ganda atau puisi-puisi anak yang diberikan di sekolah. Bacaan sastra anak tidak hanya memberikan hiburan atau kepuasan batin, akan tetapi di dalamnya terdapat nilai-nilai karakter yang dapat ditanamkan kepada anak. Nilai-nilai karakter tersebut antara lain nilai moral, budi pekerti, mandiri, kerja keras, toleransi, rasa ingin tahu, kedisiplinan, kepedulian, perjuangan dan lain-lain yang disisipkan ke dalam bahan bacaan sastra anak. However, not all literary reading materials can be read by children. Children's literature reading materials need to be adjusted based on the stage of intellectual development. This study aims to describe the characteristics of children's literary reading materials according to the stage of intellectual development and values contained in children's reading materials. This research is a qualitative-descriptive research type of library research. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be explained that literary reading materials according to the stage of children's intellectual development can be grouped into four stages, namely (1) the sensorimotor period (0-2 years) stage, which is children prefer sounds. and singing songs, (2) the pre-operational period (2-7 years) namely appropriate reading materials such as books dominated by pictures, (3) the concrete operational stage of the period (7-11 years) where appropriate reading materials are books narrative books or stories that can bring children to project themselves into time and place such as stories, adventures or traditional literature, (4) the formal operational stage of the period (11-12 years), namely the stage where children are able to understand double plot books or poetry-children's poems given at school. Reading children's literature not only provides entertainment or inner satisfaction, but in it there are character values that can be instilled in children. Abstract:
Advertising language sets an important role in conveying the purpose of influencing the consumers. To advertise a beauty product, the choice of words representing the concept of beauty becomes the first concern. This study aims to examine the types of meaning of the words used in a beauty product advertisement. To interpret the lexical meaning in beauty product, the method used in this study is descriptive qualitative analysis on six beauty products, particularly the hand body lotion product by Nivea company. The data were analyzed through Leech theory. The result showed two types of meaning in the body lotion products, namely the denotative and connotative meanings. Denotation occurs more in all of the product compared to the connotative meaning. The implication of the finding contributes to the teaching of semantics to enrich the understanding of the perspective of Leech theory in lexical meaning.

Abstract:
This study aims to find out the socio-cultural setting of the novel Pulang by Tere Liye. This research is library research so that it is not bound by the place. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive method with analytical techniques. The object of the research used is the novel Pulang by Tere Liye. This research is focused on socio-cultural background research that includes language systems, socio-cultural systems, living livelihood systems, religious systems. The technique of collecting data is done by the way researchers read, understand, determine each intrinsic and extrinsic elements of the novel. The results of this study can be concluded that there are 81 statements are stating a socio-cultural background divided into 10 language systems, 50 socio-cultural systems, 17 living livelihood systems, 4 religious systems. Study the socio-cultural system dominates, this has been proven by the number of statements that refer to the system. The socio-cultural system in this novel refers to the attitudes and behavior of each group of people whose life is governed by customs and rules regarding various kinds of unity in an environment where they live and interact day by day. The relevance between the  novel Pulang and the present life is the low interest in learning, so it is hoped that this novel can be used as a material for studying literature in high school because the contents of the novel that show learning are very important for the future.

Abstract:
This study was conducted to investigate kind and the meaning of presupposition that occur in Frozen Movie Script by using pragmatics approach. The objectives of this study are 1) To find the types of the presupposition that used in the main characters in frozen movie script. 2) To describe the interpretation meaning of the presuppositions that found in Frozen movie script. This study is qualitative research applying content analysis. The data analysis was conducted by watching the movie from beginning until the end. In this research, the writer used distributional method to select utterance in the movie script to classify the data into kinds of presupposition and writer also used distributional method to analyze the data. The findings of this research are 50 utterance were found, there are 15 existential presupposition, 4 factive presupposition, 2 non factive presupposition,9 lexical presupposition, 17 structural presupposition, and 3 counterfactual presupposition. To know the interpretation meaning of presupposition the writer watching the movie from the beginning until the end of the movie, she read and analyze the script of the movie, then she relates to the situation and context that occurs in the storyline. Therefor she concluded that every presupposition produce it has meaning that want to send by speaker to listener, every presupposition it can depends on the condition or the situation when the speaker said the utterance.

Abstract:
The objective of the research is to find out whether there is any correlation between students’ behavioral engagement and students’ speaking skill. The research used quantitative approach and the method was correlational research. The population was the eighth-grade students of SMP Islam Malahayati Jakarta. The sample of 26 students were randomly selected. The data of the students’ behavioral engagement were collected by using the questionnaire which was adopted from Miserandino’s BEQ, while the data of students’ speaking skill were collected by using the speaking test which had been validated by the expert judgment. The result shows that there is a positive significant correlation between students’ behavioral engagement and their speaking skill. It can be proven from the result of rxy = 0.698 is higher than rtable = 0.388 and tcount = 4.770 is higher than ttable = 1.7109. Coefficient determination shows that (0.698)2×100% = 48.72% so that students’ behavioral engagement contributes 48.72% towards their speaking skill. It can be concluded that there is a positive significant correlation between students’ behavioral engagement and students’ speaking skill. It means that the students who engage behaviorally have good speaking skill and vice versa.

Abstract:
Hollywood is an important media for the United States in spreading Western ideology. The hundreds years, Hollywood has featured various characters from different cultures and countries. However, they have suffered from cultural racism along with other minority groups. In American movie, the East depicted as ignorant and backward with a considered inferior culture compared to the west. This situation is known as orientalism, has influenced and controlled the mass media (films) and Western society's perceptions. This study aims to determine how eastern culture is depicted in the American film, The Karate Kid. This study uses Edward Said's Orientalism theory, which explained how the westerner views the east. The analysis concludes that the Hollywood industry reflects the superiority of the west over China through the character of Dre Parker. Hence, the portrayal of Chinese characters is displayed with stereotypes such as yellow faces, skin color racism, slanted eyes, bullying, and alcoholic habit.

Abstract:
Linguistik adalah ilmu yang mempelajari tentang bahasa, dan penggunaannya sebagai alat komunikasi. Linguistik juga mempelajari struktur bahasa dan segala aspek yang ada di dalamnya. Dalam linguistik terdapat beberapa cabang kajian ilmu di antaranya adalah: fonologi, morfologi, semantik, pragmatik, dan sintax.Morfologi adalah salah satu cabang ilmu linguistik yang memepelajari tentang seluk-beluk struktur internal kata dan pengaruh perubahan struktur tersebut terhadap arti dan golongan kata. Struktur internal kata terdiri dari satuan-satuan gramatik terkecil yang disebut morfem.Analisis ini fokus pada kajian morfem terutama morfem terikat, serta morf dan alomorf. Dengan memperdalam pengetahuan morfologi khususnya tentang morfem, diharapkan dapat meminimalisir kesalahan dalam bentuk ucaanp atau tulians saat proses komunikasi berlangsung, baik dalam lingkup formal ataupun tidak formal.Dalam puisi ”Embun Di Hutan Jati” karya Candra Malik lebih banyak didominasi morfem terikat yang berupa alomorf daripada morf. Tujuan dari penelitian adalah menjawab apa yang menjadi masalah penelitian dengan membuat program Total Quality Management (TQM) yang digunakan dosen bisa membuat hasil presentasi mahasiswa mencapai hasil maksimal. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kuantitatif untuk menganalisa data dari nilai presentasi yang didapat para mahasiswa setelah mereka melakukan presentasi dalam bahasa Inggris, untuk melihat sejauh mana mereka bisa mengerti apa yang diinginkan dosen.Sementara metode kualitatif adalah metode yang digunakan oleh peneliti dalam membuat satu program agar para mahasiswa mengerti apa yang diinstruksikan oleh dosen sebelum mereka melakukan presentasi.

Abstract:
Karya sastra merupakan bentuk kegiatan kreatif dan produktif dalam menghasilkan sebuah karya sastra yeng memiliki nilai rasa estetis serta mencerminkan realitas sosial kemasyarakatan. Salah satu nilai dalam sebuah karya sastra yang dapat digunakan sebagai bahan pembeajaran yaitu nilai pendidikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai pendidikan karakter yang terdapat dalam novel Tapak Jejak karya Fiersa Besari. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan teknik baca dan teknik catat. Teknik validitas data dalam penelitian ini dengan triangulasi data. Berdasarkan hasil analisis tersebut, diperoleh nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam novel Tapak Jejak karya Fiersa Besari, meliputi (1) religius (2) jujur, (3) kreatifitas, (4) semangat kebangsaan, (5) cinta tanah air, (6) komunikatif, (7) cinta damai.Kata kunci: nilai pendidikan karakter, novel, tokoh utama

Abstract:
Beautiful words have special meanings and involve expressing ideas in song lyrics through figurative language. This study discussed an analysis of the figurative language in the Maroon 5 song’s lyrics. This study emphasizes the use of figurative language and meaning in the lyrics of the song "Nobody's Love" by Maroon 5. Furthermore, the data source was taken from the lyrics of the Maroon 5 song lyrics. This research employed the descriptive qualitative model. In the analysis, the procedure began by reading the lyrics. Second, the researchers sought to identify words, phrases, and phrases that involved figurative language and catch each figurative language's context. Thirdly, the researchers took some notes about figurative language. Finally, the researchers classified and re-checked the details and analyzed them. The next step was the discussion of each category's results. The last step was drawing conclusions based on the report. The data showed five types of figurative language found in the lyrics of this song: Personification 20%, Hyperbole 30%, Irony 20%, Simile 20%, and Repetition 20%.

Abstract:
This research aimed at investigating English Language Education department students’ speaking fluency level. The research subjects were twelve third-semester students of English Language Education Department at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Mixed method was used in this research. The data were collected in the form of audio transcription. Three fluency standards were used, namely speech rate, pause rate, and disfluent syllable. The result showed that all of the students obtained the disfluent syllable, with a score below 30 disfluencies per minute. The majority of students obtained a low level of speaking fluency in terms of speech rate and pause rate. The average of students’ speech rate was below 162 syllables per minute and the majority of students’ pause rate was above 1 second. In conclusion, two students achieved level 3 (good) of speaking fluency and ten other students achieved level 2 (intermediate). Key Word: English language education students, fluency level, speaking

Abstract:
The present study compares the lexical richness of 30 essays taken from the same class of University of Bina Sarana Informatika (henceforth mentioned as UBSI)’s students. The 30 essays were written by female and male of English Department students during their first, second, and third semester. This paper uses Web-based Second Language (L2) Lexical Frequency Profile (LFP), a batch mode of the web-based interface to the lexical richness proposed by Laufer and Nation (1995) which allows the users to calculate and to analyze the lexical richness of a corpus of text files at one time. The focus of this study is merely on the score of tokens, types and type-token ratio (TTR). The results show that the average of tokens produced by male students is higher than female students. In term of types, the average types of female students are lower than male students. Meanwhile, the highest TTR score was gained by female students (0.60) and the lowest TTR score was produced by male students (0.55), both in the second semester. A big TTR Score indicates a high lexical richness, while a small TTR shows a low lexical richness. By comparing the lexical richness of students’ writings, this study is expected to show the students’ writing skill improvement or impairment during first three semesters of studying English.

Abstract:
This research is a kind of survey and aims to find out and analyze empirically the effect of reading habit and vocabulary mastery towards student’s reading comprehension. The observed population of this research in state senior high school students in Central Jakarta. The sample was gained through simple random sampling. The gained data was then analyzed by using correlation technique and multiple regressions. Previously, the prerequisite tests before examining the regression test must be accomplished, such as normality test and linearity test. Abstract:
On 25 September 2019, Indonesia Lawyers Club (ILC) have made themes Rancangan Kitab Undang Undang Hukum Pidana controversy or RKUHP controversy. ILC discusses several chapters that invite the pros and cons in the interpersonal community of the article concerning the insult to the President and Vice President, article on the possession of supernatural powers to commit a criminal offense, article on poultry breeding, article on demonstrating contraceptives, articles on abortion, and other. In the critical paradigm, the use of language in the media is intentional and has a specific purpose. Seeing this, researchers are interested in seeing the discourse built in the talk show. The researchers used a critical discourse analysis technique model (Teun van Dijk) and found that ILC built a discourse that article RKUHP serves the interests of the Government. The RKUHP intervenes in the privacy of the community, and RKUHP discriminates against certain groups. This discourse also shows the definition and positioning of the ILC position on the participants of the production discourse. ILC placed Karni Iliyas as the dominant moderator so that his reality could be accepted by the public as truth. using the technique of text analysis, social cognition, and context, researchers found a discourse built by ILC confirming the view that the RKUHP invites pros and cons in society. Researchers have also found that the ILC conversion of the RKUHP is influenced by government interests.

Abstract:
Literary works have attracted more attention as a pedagogical instrument in enhancing vocabulary in recent years. Short stories refer to the learning media that is applied by the teacher to help the student in improving student’s vocabulary based on the context of reading a certain text. The Increased interest in a student-centered approach makes this short story received attention from a variety of studies. In the case of students must be more active in the learning process.The activity lets the students explore various new words, the content of the story and also sentence structure. The focus of the activity is to define and understand the words in a specific context based on the content of the text. This paper is a literature review from a previous study of short stories in English as a Second / Foreign Language context (ESL / EFL). The ten short story studies from the last ten years were widely reviewed and systematically analyzed. A short story from the study reviewed is about the quality of student vocabulary results in the context of EFL / ESL due to understanding vocabulary plays an important role in learning English. As a critical review paper of these studies, this paper highlights the obstacles faced during a teaching in improving vocabulary and the practicality of short stories as an effective pedagogical instrument in improving vocabulary. This study hopes that it can be useful and used effectively by educators in the ESL and EFL classrooms in the future. Keywords: Short Story, vocabulary learning, learning and teaching activity
