Comparison of Venturi Conduit - Conduit For Aeration Performance

Abstract
Dissolved oxygen quantity in the natural sources of water is an important water quality parameter indicating pollution. Meanwhile, it is a great importance in terms of aquatic life. Several biological processes and chemical reactions occurring naturally in the water cause decreased dissolved oxygen quantity. In this case, it is necessary to re-oxygenate water by aeration. Aeration is the process that absorption of oxygen from atmosphere to water. Many hydraulic structures are used for aeration. Hydraulic structures increase the amount of dissolved oxygen significantly, even though the water is in contact with the structure for only a short time.Venturi and gated conduits are hydraulic structures that has become popular in recent years. In this study, the aeration performance of the venturi conduit was compared with that of the conduit. At low constriction rates, the aeration performances of both hydraulic structures are very close to each other, but with increasing constriction rates, the venturi conduit has a higher aeration performance than the conduit alone.
