HCV genotype 3 followed by genotype 1 are the predominant genotypes in India. Genotype 5 has been reported only in case reports from India previously. We report the case of a 70 year old male who presented with Hepatocellular cancer in the background of chronic hepatitis C. The patient on evaluation was found to have genotype 5.
