Women at high risk of preterm preeclampsia who took low-dose aspirin during their pregnancy had a significantly lower incidence of the disease compared with a placebo group, found a trial in the New England Journal of Medicine. The 1776 women with singleton pregnancies deemed to be at high risk of preterm preeclampsia based on a unique multimodal screening tool were randomly assigned to receive aspirin (150 mg/d) or placebo from 11 to 14 weeks of gestation until 36 weeks of gestation.
