Nexus between Motivation and Newly Appointed Employee’s Job Performance: A Review on Intrinsic and Extrinsic Incentives

Abstract: Employees’ job performance is explicitly influenced by both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is defined as behavior motivated by internal rewards while extrinsic motivation is defined as a desire to engage in an activity in order to achieve an external goal, such as receiving praise and acceptance. The principal objective of this study is to explore how intrinsic and extrinsic motivation influence the job performance of newly appointed employees. In so doing, the study undergoes an extensive review of the literature. The study finds that intrinsic incentives have a significant impact on higher job performance. It further claims, that intrinsically motivated employees provide superior organizational output compared to their extrinsically motivated counterparts.
