A Slot Antenna for Non-invasive Detection of Blood Constituents Concentrations

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a new slot antenna for non-invasive detection of the concentrations of blood constituents. The designed antenna is composed of multiple slots that are optimized to enhance its sensitivity to the bound medium. To test its performance, the antenna is loaded by a foam container filled with fetal bovine serum (FBS) solution whose glucose concentration levels are varied. Accordingly, the magnitude and phase of the antenna’s reflection coefficient (S 11 ) are monitored at multiple frequencies for various glucose levels. A good correlation between the antenna’s S 11 and reference glucose levels, which are measured with an invasive glucometer, is observed.
