Ulcerative Colitis – Prevention and Treatment with a Plant-Based Diet

Abstract
Journal of clinical gastroenterology is part of the Juniper publishers which is devoted to publish subject-specific articles focused on the needs of individual research communities across all areas of biology and medicine. Treating ulcerative colitis (UC) can be frustrating for doctor and patient alike. Therefore, practicing prevention with this disease is particularly desirable. Significant changes in dietary intake during the past decades have been associated with the increase in incidence of UC. A meta-analysis of seven epidemiological studies found meat intake to raise the risk of ulcerative colitis by 47%. Consumption of fruits and vegetables have been found to significantly decrease the risk.
