Abstract
Graveyards are important cultural sites that remind mankind of the temporal of the world. Gravestones are valuable guides that remind the interlocutor of the afterlife and reveal the truth of death. The gravestones are important because they contain information about the language, culture, art, and architectural understanding of Turk tribes and communities. Some graveyards belonging to Turk tribes and communities have symbolic inscribed stones that reflect the world view of the inhabitants and the deceased, which were built by the people living in that region and which reflect the common view of all the graves to their visitors. With this study, the inscribed stone in the Balıkesir Kavakbaşı village graveyard was intended to identify elements belonging to the ancient Turkish culture. The inscribed stone identified elements belonging to the ancient Turkish culture, including “Tengri, ancient Turkish cities, historical Turkish personalities, an expression from the Orhun Inscriptions and cult of the seedbed.”
