Abstract
En tr This study aimed to analyse the use of the technique of diagnostic branched tree in the science course in the setting of a special education class. To this end, a student with intellectual disability in a special education class was taught the subject of “Digestion of Foods” through a plan that included the technique of the diagnostic branched tree along with direct instruction, whereas a plan employing direct instruction techniques only was used for the teaching of “The Excretory System”. The efficiency and effectiveness of both plans in the learning outcomes were compared through the use of adopted alternating treatments design of single subject designs. An 11-year old female student with mild intellectual disability attending the special education class in the province of Bolu participated in the study. The findings suggested that the two plans did not significantly differ in terms of efficiency. As well as plan that used the technique of the diagnostic branched tree along with direct instruction was found more effectiveness than plan employing direct instruction techniques only. The opinions expressed by the special education teacher the findings of the social validity revealed that the technique of diagnostic branched tree employed in this study could contribute to the development of students’ cognitive skills and facilitate the establishment of an effective learning-teaching environment in the science courses in special education classes. Bu araştırmanın amacı, tanılayıcı dallanmış ağaç tekniğinin özel eğitim sınıfında, Fen Bilimleri dersinde kullanımını incelemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda özel eğitim sınıfında yer alan zihin yetersizliği olan bir öğrenciye “Besinlerin Sindirimi” konusunun öğretiminde, doğrudan öğretim yöntemiyle birlikte tanılayıcı dallanmış ağaç tekniğinin yer aldığı öğretim planı uygulanırken, aynı öğrenciye “Vücudumuzda Boşaltım” konusunun öğretiminde, sadece doğrudan öğretim yönteminin yer aldığı öğretim planı uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada her iki öğretim planının, konuların öğrenciye kazandırılmasındaki etkililik ve verimliliklerini karşılaştırmak amacıyla tek denekli araştırmalardan, uyarlamalı dönüşümlü uygulamalar modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya Bolu ilindeki özel eğitim sınıfına devam eden hafif düzey zihin yetersizliği gösteren 11 yaşındaki bir kız öğrenci katılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlardan her iki öğretim planının uygulanması arasında etkililik açısından bir farklılık olmadığı görülmüştür. Doğrudan öğretim yöntemiyle birlikte tanılayıcı dallanmış ağaç tekniğinin kullanıldığı öğretim planının uygulanmasının, sadece doğrudan öğretim yönteminin kullanıldığı öğretim planının uygulanmasına göre daha verimli olduğu belirlenmiştir. Özel eğitim öğretmeninden alınan görüşler doğrultusunda, sosyal geçerlik verilerinden elde edilen bulgular da araştırmada kullanılan tanılayıcı dallanmış ağaç tekniğinin, öğrencinin bilişsel becerilerinin gelişmesine ve özel eğitim sınıflarında işlenen Fen Bilimleri dersinde etkili bir öğrenme-öğretme ortamının oluşmasına katkı sağladığını göstermiştir. Keywords
