Abstract
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved $16.8 million in grants to 32 organizations to encourage participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to purchase more fruits and vegetables. “These grants help provide low-income families with the resources they need to consume more nutritious food,” said Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue in a statement. He noted that last year, SNAP, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, “helped put healthy food on the tables of at least 44 million Americans, including 19 million children.”
