Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the views of pre-service science teachers about the universe and its properties. This study which consists of qualitative data is designed as a case study. The study was carried out with senior students who studied in a science education department of a public university in Turkey. This study was carried out with senior students who were studying at the department of science education at the education faculty of a public university in Turkey and were referred to as pre-service teachers in this study. 66 participants were included in the data collection process. A structured interview form consisting of four open-ended questions and one sentence completion based on metaphorical description was used as data collection tool. The data was analyzed with content analysis method. According to the analysis results, the participants have misconceptions about the expansion of the universe. However, it was remarkable that the pre-service science teachers in the study group were not confident in explaining the composition of the universe. Keywords
