Abstract: Preliminary. Pain is the most common complaint experienced by post-surgical patients, in which clients who experience pain are less able to participate in daily activities and severe pain can hinder a person's lifestyle if not treated immediately. Progressive relaxation techniques (PMR) are one of the techniques which is used in reducing pain in patients, especially post-surgical patients. The results of the study by Aprina, which was carried out in the room fined Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek of Lampung Province in 2017, showed that the intensity scale of post op Benign Prostate Hyperplasia pain before progressive relaxation therapy resulted in a mean of 5.20 with a standard deviation of 0.834 while the pain intensity scale after progressive relaxation therapy obtained a mean result of 3.60 with a standard deviation of 0.681. By this findings, it can be concluded that progressive relaxation techniques have a major effect on reducing pain intensity. Aim. This study aimed to determine the effect of progressive relaxation on pain intensity in BPH post op patients in TK II Pelamonia Makassar Hospital. Research methods. The research design was Quasi Experiment with One Group Pre-Post Test research designed with sampling technique using accidental sampling technique. The number of samples used in this study were 20 respondents. Data collection used observation sheets and the data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis with Wilcoxon test. Results. The results of the study showed that the mean result of the pain intensity scale before progressive relaxation therapy was 5.20 with a standard deviation of 0.834 while the pain intensity scale after progressive relaxation therapy was 3.60 with a standard deviation of 0.681.
