Abstract
Antioxidant capacity and essential oil composition of Hypericum thymopsis Boiss. (Hypericaceae), an endemic species, distributed in Turkey was determined. The samples of three different populations were used for the analysis. Antioxidant activities was determined by DPPH method from the leaves and flowers. Essential oil analysis was performed from areal parts of plant by gas chromatography (GC) and GC/mass spectrometry (MS). α-Pinene, spathulenol and limonene are determined as the major components of the essential oils. According to the 50% inhibition (IC50) values (μg/mL) the highest antioxidant values were measured in the methanolic extract of flowers. Keywords
