Abstract
Language and culture are inseparable signification terms. The political and social life of nation, their history, culture, life and belief are hidden in the language that makes them a nation. Therefore, it is impossible to think of an artist, poet or writer as separated from the society and culture in which they live. One of the important poets of Azerbaijan, Mikâyıl Müşfik, who lived between 1908 and 1938. His poems that shed light on his own period, are historical documents. Mikâyıl Müşfik has reflected the history, culture, traditions and customs of Azerbaijan people in a sincere and simple literary language and became the language of the people. In this article, the poem named “Oku Tar” which belongs to Mikâyıl Müşfik has been taken to the center of Azerbaijani national instrument tar and examined in terms of cultural elements such as clothing, music culture and cities. In many times, the poet stressed the importance of Tar in the cultural memory of the public, and spoke about such as the strings of this national instrument, the melodies made and the effects on the mood of the audience. Making such a wide cultural depiction over an instrument reflects both the historical and cultural depth of the instrument and the poet’s interest and knowledge in both this culture and the instrument.
