A Study on Convergence Major of Multimedia and Music through Case Analysis of Overseas Universities

Abstract
The development of convergence majors in universities is in accordance with the rapidly changing demands of the times, and in particular, the necessity of convergence between music and multimedia is emerging as a major. Therefore, this paper compares and analyzes the educational contents of New York University's Interactive Media Arts course, a convergence major of a practical approach, and Stanford University's Music, Science, and Technology course, which continues digital-based learning in the cognitive aspect, based on the theory of music. The type of New York University's IMA course is a form of convergence of various arts including music based on digital media. There are five elective distributions so that students can study and according to interests and preference. The MST course, a convergence major at Stanford University, has an educational content that learns digital and computer-based programs with the beginning of convergence in music, and operates a curriculum that consistently induces the convergence of music and multimedia including the human hearing and the system of the cranial nerves to music, such as music anthroposophy, music neuroscience.
