The article considers phenomenon of political correctness; by means of semantic analysis it reveals the equivocity of its concept; inquiring into some pieces of classical literature and relevant contemporary events it shows its fountainhead and nature. Research completed, conclusions follow: as a socio-psychological phenomenon political correctness existed thousands years without being named; political power is its fountainhead; its nature is dangerous to opponents as well as to supporters; contemporary political correctness is the weapon of neoliberal ideology directed against the freedom of speech; in this fight, the partisans of political correctness in some spheres reach and cross the borders of sanity; some political changes of international significance raise hope that the West will get rid of the noxious dictature of political correctness.
