URBAN DESIGN AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT IN CULTURAL HERITAGE SITES: THE CASE OF BURSA HANLAR DISTRICT

Abstract
Urban design plays an important role in the conservation and development of cultural heritage sites which have great importance in terms of their socio-cultural and socio-economic values in defining urban identity and memory. Aim: This research was carried out in order to identify urban design problems and to develop suggestions about them for Bursa Hanlar District which was registered as a UNESCO cultural heritage site in 2014. Method: In the study, in order to measure the perceptions, satisfactions and expectations of the urban residents about the district, 370 shopping mall users were surveyed, 22 in-depth interviews were made with local artisans, in line with the targets of the Bursa and Cumal
