Several reasons were behind the decision to dedicate a whole meeting on heart failure. Heart failure is a growing epidemic. Its prevalence is increasing worldwide, because of the aging of the population and because of the progress made in medicine allowing patients with myocardial infarction, hypertension, diabetes, end-stage renal disease, and other diseases to live longer and to reach the stage of heart failure.
